Data Center Engineer

Position Overview

MetroSys is seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer with strong expertise in VMware vSphere and Omnissa Horizon View (formerly VMware Horizon) to support a client infrastructure assessment and optimization engagement.

This consultant will work directly with client stakeholders to assess the health, performance, security, and operational maturity of the organization's virtual infrastructure and VDI environment. The primary objectives are to identify configuration issues, optimize resource utilization, recommend best practices, and develop remediation plans aligned with industry standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure engineer who can quickly assess enterprise environments, provide actionable recommendations, and assist with implementation activities as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of VMware vSphere infrastructure.
• Review cluster configurations, host utilization, storage performance, networking, and operational practices.
• Analyze VMware resource allocation and provide recommendations for rightsizing and performance optimization.
• Assess and optimize Omnissa Horizon View environments, including:
  • VDI sizing and allocation
  • Desktop pool configurations
  • User experience optimization
  • Capacity planning
  • Performance tuning
• Review security configurations and operational practices for alignment with industry standards and best practices.
• Identify risks, performance bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with remediation activities and implementation of approved recommendations.
• Collaborate with client infrastructure and operations teams throughout the engagement.
• Participate in onsite discovery and stakeholder meetings.
• Produce detailed findings, recommendations, and remediation documentation.
• Provide knowledge transfer and operational guidance to client personnel.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise VMware environments.
• Strong hands-on expertise with:
  • VMware vSphere
  • ESXi
  • vCenter
  • VMware clustering technologies
• Experience administering and optimizing:
  • Omnissa Horizon View (VMware Horizon)
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
• Strong understanding of:
  • VMware networking
  • Storage integration
  • Resource optimization
  • Capacity planning
• Experience performing infrastructure assessments and health checks.
• Ability to document findings and present recommendations to technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel onsite as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• VMware VCP certification.
• Omnissa Horizon certifications.
• Experience with enterprise storage platforms.
• Experience with security hardening and STIG compliance reviews.
• Previous consulting or professional services experience.
