SQL Database & Integration Developer
Position Overview
MetroSys is seeking a Mid-Level SQL Database & Integration Developer to provide immediate support for a client in Irvine, CA. This is a hands-on role supporting an existing Microsoft SQL Server environment and the applications and integrations that depend on it.
The consultant will be responsible for writing and troubleshooting SQL queries, supporting data integrations between business applications, maintaining existing SSIS packages, and resolving database-related application issues.
This engagement is expected to require approximately 30–40 hours per week and is initially a temporary/contract position with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
The ideal candidate is located in or near Irvine, CA and can work closely with the client's technical and business teams as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, execute, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries within Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Investigate and resolve database-related issues impacting business applications.
- Troubleshoot connections and data flows between SQL databases and existing applications.
- Support integrations to and from the client's existing application environment.
- Create, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.
- Monitor and troubleshoot scheduled data-processing and integration jobs.
- Investigate failed queries, jobs, integrations, and data-transfer processes and determine root causes.
- Assist with stored procedures, views, functions, scripts, and other SQL database objects.
- Work with application owners and technical teams to identify whether issues originate within the database, integration layer, or application.
- Assist with data validation and troubleshooting to maintain accurate and reliable information across integrated systems.
- Review the existing SQL and integration environment and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Document queries, integrations, SSIS packages, configurations, dependencies, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide knowledge transfer and help reduce reliance on undocumented or single-resource database processes.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong SQL/T-SQL querying and troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining SSIS packages.
- Experience supporting application-to-database and database-to-application integrations.
- Experience troubleshooting failed queries, jobs, data feeds, and application/database connectivity.
- Working knowledge of stored procedures, views, functions, joins, and database objects.
- Ability to troubleshoot existing environments and understand applications and integrations that may have limited documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with application owners and business users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting SQL Server environments in a production business environment.
- Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs and scheduled processes.
- Experience with ETL and data integration workflows.
- Familiarity with APIs, flat-file integrations, SFTP, or other application integration methods.
- Basic SQL Server performance troubleshooting and query optimization experience.
- Experience taking ownership of an environment previously managed by another SQL resource.
- Local to Irvine or the surrounding Orange County area.
